Counting Down the Stories

Juniper Tree Layout-Mirror Mirrored

It has been a while since our last update and we’ve been busy with lots of Grimms’ goodness. Most importantly, and the subject of this update, the book continues to come together.

We’ve shown you contemporary art, we’ve shown you vintage illustrations, and now we’d like to shown you how it all fits together. Below, please find a sample story—”The Juniper Tree”—from the forthcoming publication, start to finish. “The Juniper Tree” is one of our favorite fairy tales and was also the title of Maurice Sendak’s delightful Grimms’ collection.

Here, contemporary artist Pam Rogers has contributed four wonderful pieces, which were previously shown at the Mirror Mirrored exhibit in Washington, DC, and have now all found their way to a new home.

“The Juniper Tree” also has a rich history of illustration, including pictures from Kay Nielsen, Walter Crane, Moritz von Schwind, Haermann Vogel, Otto Ubbelohde, Warwick Goble, and others—many of whom are remixed in this story.

We hope you enjoy seeing this layout from Mirror Mirrored, as we had a fantastic time making it. We have completed layouts for 17 of our stories so far, leaving only 7 more tales to go.

We hope that you are all having an amazing summer and look forward to updating you again in August!

Good Grimms thoughts, Corwin and Michelle
